Position Regarding the Operation of College Admissions for the 2025 Academic Year

Starting from 9 AM on September 9, 2024, the application process for the 2025 academic year’s irregular recruitment has officially begun. During this application period, examinees and their parents are submitting their applications to the programs at the universities they wish to apply to, hopeful that the efforts they have made over the past 12 years will lead to positive results.

The Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) and its member universities recognize that college admissions are crucial not only for examinees but also for the nation, and they are committed to doing their best to ensure that the admission process proceeds smoothly and stably.

However, some media reports suggesting that the scale of new student recruitment for the 2025 academic year may change are causing significant concern among examinees and parents ahead of the application process, and the KCUE is also experiencing a surge in inquiries related to this matter.

As noted, based on the college recruitment quotas determined by government policy, the KCUE announced changes to the implementation plan for the 2025 academic year’s college admission process at the end of May, following proper procedures. Accordingly, each university has finalized its irregular and regular recruitment guidelines and has already communicated the number of available spots to examinees.

In the current situation where irregular recruitment is underway, if the admission process cannot proceed according to the already announced guidelines and if there are changes to the schedule or number of recruits, it would cause significant confusion for the examinees.

While the application process may seem like a simple choice made by an individual, it is actually a decision made by a family that considers multiple complex factors. Examinees and their parents do not simply consider the student's aptitude or grades when choosing a university or program. They meticulously analyze and deliberate over various factors, including the choices of other applicants, to determine what would be most advantageous before making a final decision. Therefore, college admissions involve a highly complex mechanism. Therefore, if there are changes to the 2025 academic year admissions, the admission strategies that examinees and parents have carefully prepared could become meaningless, raising significant concerns about the potential for widespread confusion throughout the entire admission process.

Considering the overall situation, the KCUE and its member universities have no choice but to proceed with the admissions process according to the already announced schedule. It is hoped that the government and relevant agencies will actively collaborate to ensure stable admission operations.
